Job Summary:

The Database Administrator (DBA) will provide customer on-site database system sustainment, evaluation, design, troubleshooting, configuration, performance monitoring, and documentation support to the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC). The DBA will support defining the architecture of a specialized database system in order to fulfill specific customer requirements. This will include but is not limited to: operating systems, database design, management planning, recovery, and security. Work will be coordinated with the Systems Security Administrator and the System Architect to ensure customer requirements are met.

The ideal DBA candidate must have extensive experience with various database, hardware, and software solutions in order to provide the most efficient and secure systems design. The DBA must be familiar with working in Federal government Information Systems (IS) environments to include Department of Defense (DOD), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and other relevant agencies or organizations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create and manage multiple databases and assist in capacity planning
  • Monitor, maintain database systems and troubleshoot problems that may arise
  • Maintain data integrity and security
  • Database tuning
  • Generate traces, execution plans, identify performance issues, deadlocks/contention and resolve them
  • Create strategies and implement solutions for managing back-ups, restoration and replication
  • Support software developers with database operations including the development of complex SQL, tuning of DML and the creation of stored procedures
  • Manage production, QA and development database environments
  • Create detailed documentation including diagrams of database infrastructure
  • Experienced in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Experienced in ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) development / data integration
  • Sound knowledge of RDBMS concepts, database architecture and SQL/T-SQL
  • Proficient with SQL server profiler for monitoring and troubleshooting database activity and performance
  • Must be able to successfully work in high tempo environment creating efficient well documented and successful design solutions resolving unique issues
  • Participates in trade studies to solve technical problems and identify preferred solutions
  • Participates in technical reviews to assess project progress from design through development and delivery
  • Applicant must during, the life cycle of a project, be able to communicate clearly with clients in order to explain the progress and results of the work to them

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of other databases like MySQL, No SQL databases and In-memory databases and MCTIP certification will be an advantage
  • DODAF 2.0.2 knowledge and experience
  • Programming experience in C, C++, Python, JAVA
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Works well independently or as part of a group
  • Good writing skills, as there may be a requirement to write reports
  • Degree of judgment and multi-tasking associated with performing job duties
  • Contact with the customer/provide customer support (may be internal or external customer)
  • May conduct some research  

Desired:

  • DoDAF 2.02 Experience and knowledge
  • Programming experience in C, C++, Python, JAVA
  • System security experience to include Information Assurance and Security
  • Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance

Education: BA/BS + 8 years of experience or 9 - 12 years of experience
