Job Summary:

The Bioengineer/Biologist provides senior level on-site, biological science, research, development and test support in Charlottesville V. Contractor shall utilize various topics relating to the theory and application of technologies in Biometrics, microbiology, molecular biology or forensic sciences. Identifies emerging technologies in commercial applications/markets and projects conducted by academia, other Government organizations and private industry to recommend new technological opportunities to satisfy Government requirements. Provides technical advice to government project managers. Provides direct support to research, development and test activities for unique biological collection capabilities. Accurately documents and maintains detailed records of test activities to assure developmental technologies successfully achieve customer driven requirements. Serves as team member on Division-wide and multi-disciplinary efforts fulfilling support roles as needed, including the visual, audio and written documentation of demonstrations, tests, and other activities as deemed necessary by Government personnel. Candidate may required to participate and/or support field tests and operational demonstration activities.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Support in the generation of technical solutions to Government requirements by proposing scientific-based ideas to solve critical challenges; writing acquisition-related documents to produce the best technical solutions to be transitioned to end-users; and reviewing progress reports on the assigned projects.
  • Conduct market analyses to evaluate maturity and suitability of potential technology solutions to satisfy documented needs.
  • Investigate and evaluate emerging S&T in commercial applications/markets and R&D projects conducted by universities, other Government organizations and private industry to recommend new technological opportunities to satisfy requirements.
  • Support planning, programming and budgeting activities with S&T proposal descriptions and justifications.
  • Develop technical documents supporting development, acquisition, and integration programs.
  • Support systems acquisition planning activities to include: defining project scope and tasks, and creating work breakdown structures; building schedules; estimating resources, costs and budgets; and developing plans for test and evaluation, systems engineering, life cycle maintenance/logistics and others.
  • Provide technical support for tests, exercises, preoperational planning and workup and operations.
  • Support systems engineering activities to analyze user requirements and operational capabilities and constraints, define objectives and develop concept and system performance levels and constraints.
  • Perform functional needs analysis and allocation to decompose and translate intelligence operations requirements, concepts and systems into design solutions.
  • Specify enabling and critical technology, subsystems and verification path.
  • Assist in receiving mail and storing shipments
  • Provides tracking and status reports of activities.

Desired: DoD experience


MS in applied microbiology, molecular biology, or forensic science plus 11-15 years directly related experience

Special Requirements: Active TS/SCI Clearance required. Member must pass a Polygraph within 90-days of employment.
