Job Summary:

The Operations Research position will be supporting the Air Force Technical Applications Center's (AFTAC) Plans and Programs branch across several technical projects through the application of procedures associated with the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) approach defining the acquisition requirements and evaluation criteria for these defense programs. The candidate will be provided specific mission related tasking and be expected to independently develop the proper approach/solution, brief findings to senior leadership, and conduct independent research. Key duties include:

  • Defining the problem and the results sought;
  • Identifying innovative and pragmatic solutions to clients' management problems and testing these solutions;
  • Collecting and analyzing data and developing models, often using spreadsheets, databases and pragmatic, numerical approaches to solve problems;
  • Gathering relevant hard and soft data from systems and personnel at various levels within the organization;
  • Interviewing managers and staff;
  • Using analytical methods, such as simulation, network analysis, decision analysis, multi-criteria analysis, scenario analysis, soft systems modelling, optimization, game theory and queuing theory;
  • Developing, administering and analyzing surveys and survey results to inform analytical efforts;
  • Using mathematical programming techniques, including linear programming;
  • Using statistical methods and testing hypotheses;
  • Feeding in results and helping to implement chosen options;
  • Writing clear, concise reports of findings and creating and delivering presentations to clients, often requiring clear and persuasive explanation of complex processes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Applicant must during, the life cycle of a project, be able to communicate clearly with clients in order to explain the progress and results of the work to them.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Required:

  • JCIDS experience
  • JCTD experience
  • CBRNE experience with emphasis on nuclear components
  • Knowledge of analytical methods and statistics
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Works well independently or as part of a group
  • Good writing skills, as there may be a requirement to write reports
  • Degree of judgment and multi-tasking associated with performing job duties
  • Contact with the customer/provide customer support (may be internal or external customer)
  • May conduct some research

Desired: Operations Research Experience for developing technology programs

Education:

Required: BA/BS in Operations Research plus 5-8 years of experience

Years of exp in lieu of degree: 9-12
