Job Summary: This position provides on-site maritime vessel support to research, development and test activities that occur at DWST/ATI-5C at CCAFS. This position serves as Maritime Specialist and Technician responsible for day-to-day support of multiple maritime vessels under control by ATI5C that perform continuous research and development test activities. . The Maritime First Mate works with ATI personnel in:

  • Performing navigation and operation of vessels, including 100+ ton, as required to support ATI5C activities
  • Planning and coordinating upgrades for ATI5C vessels to meet incoming R&D requirements
  • Track program activities and reporting status to synchronize and enhance the overall effectiveness of the ATl-5C maritime assets.
  • Possess specialized knowledge to interpret and apply concepts and theories and make time sensitive decisions regarding personnel and equipment safety
  • Have a background in vessel management involving industrial maritime type activities such as load planning, rigging support, launch/recovery, salvage, search, mooring, multiple vessel activities, etc.
  • Be able to provide technical advice to government project managers and engineers with regard to boat operations and mission feasibility as well as plan and coordinate maritime tests and maintenance
  • Prepare for activities such as readiness reviews; utilization and safety training; and interagency coordination
  • Provide history of operating, maintaining and repairing marine equipment such as winches, hydraulics, A-frames, davits, pneumatics, and shipboard systems at sea
  • Be capable of providing deck hand and swimmer services for deploying and retrieving equipment in the water.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for day-to-day support of multiple maritime vessels
  • Demonstrate and evaluate vessels for overall readiness.
  • Coordinate upgrades for ATI5C vessels to meet incoming R&D requirements
  • Specialized knowledge to interpret and apply concepts and theories and make time sensitive decisions regarding personnel and equipment safety.
  • Background in vessel operations involving industrial maritime type activities such as launch/recovery, salvage, search, mooring, multiple vessel activities, etc. integration activities so as to resolve software and hardware interoperability and compatibility challenges
  • Experience in of operating, maintaining and repairing marine equipment such as winches, hydraulics, A-frames, davits, pneumatics, and shipboard systems at sea.
  • Complies with CCAFS industrial hygiene requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish the ATl5 mission.
  • Applicant must during, the life cycle of a project, be able to communicate clearly with clients in order to explain the progress and results of the work to them.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • 100 Ton Masters license; with industrial experience
  • Responsible for and upkeep of vessels
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
  • Vessel Security Officer (VSO)
  • Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW)
  • AB Unlimited
  • Basic & Advanced Firefighting
  • Qualified to operate a fork lift and a 5000 pound capacity truck mounted crane
  • Bridge Resource Management (BRM)
  • Radar Observation
  • Safe Deck Load Planning
  • CPR & First Aid Certified
  • Survival Craft, Gulf Safe, and Water Survival trained
  • Provide training to other team members to create cohesive crew
  • Experience in Vessel Management

Education/Training:

  • AA/AS
  • BS is desired
  • OR 2-5 year's experience
