Job Summary:  The position is located in Reston, Virginia supporting the Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Organization (JIDO) J-8 Integration and Delivery Branch (IDB).  The applicant will serve as a focal point for coordination between the JIDO J-8 and the JIDO J-2 and J-3 on threats posed by unmanned aerial systems (UAS), particularly small UAS (sUAS), and the development and fielding of C-UAS capabilities.  The applicant will support JIDO analysis of C-UAS capability gaps and evaluation of C-UAS capabilities with the potential to mitigate capability gaps.  Applicant will be responsible for identifying and analyzing technology trends related to UAS threats and C-UAS capabilities in order to inform JIDO delivery of C-UAS capabilities to the warfighter.  The applicant will coordinate with all cognizant JIDO staff sections (J-2, J-3, J-7, J-9, etc.) to review pertinent developments related to the fielding of C-UAS capabilities, including development plans, fielding plans, training plans, operational assessments, and test plans and associated test data/test results. The applicant will identify and analyze developments related to adversary UAS TTPs as well as Blue Force C-UAS operational plans and TTPs.  The applicant will serve as an advisor to senior J-8 and JIDO leadership, as well as action officers on JIDO plans related to development and delivery of C-UAS capabilities.  In addition, the applicant will support JIDO engagements with a full range of partner organizations on UAS threats and C-UAS capabilities. This positon requires the applicant to possess an active TS/SCI Security Clearance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate with JIDO J-3 and J-9 on assessing the performance of fielded C-UAS capabilities.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition process and JIDO rapid capability delivery process.
  • Support JIDO J-8 assessments of C-UAS related capability gaps and C-UAS capabilities with the potential to mitigate capability gaps.
  • Identify and analyze technology trends, operational plans, and TTPs related to UAS threats and C-UAS technologies.
  • Review test data related to the performance of C-UAS systems.
  • Coordinates with the JIDO J-2 to ensure that the latest analyses and products on UAS threats are disseminated as necessary to JIDO J-8 personnel.
  • Respond to theater and COCOM Requests For Information (RFIs) related to UAS threats and C-UAS capabilities.
  • Assists with the production of JIDO C-UAS capability products and briefings.
  • Support JIDO engagements with other DoD components, other federal government agencies, industry, academia, and international partners related to UAS threats and C-UAS capabilities.
  • Assist JIDO J-8 Program Integrators and System Integrators with development and review of C-UAS related development plans, and milestone-decision related documents (such as JIDO System Review (JSR) briefs).
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required:  Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering

Desired:  Master's degree

In lieu of:  10+ years in a relevant field

Special Requirements:  

  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance is required.
  • Experience briefing senior and executive level leadership
  • Possesses both tactical and operational experience
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers with experience using Microsoft Office Suite and web based applications is required.
