Job Summary:   The Senior Vulnerability Research Engineer will review, isolate, analyze and then reverse-engineer programs that are vulnerable or malicious code in order to determine and understand the specific nature of the threat to support DIA/ST/ATI-5C at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), Florida. The Senior Vulnerability Research Engineer will also be responsible for staying on top of the "vulnerability landscape" and be up-to-date on current attacks or potential attacks and prepare counter-measures (if possible) to thwart those attacks or at least be prepared for them. Other job responsibilities include: 

  • Document the specific attack capabilities of the specimen (code, virus, etc.) and understand the concept of exploitation scenario.
  • Create detailed technical reports concerning the threat, along with PoC code.
  • Provide detection guidance to other team members or additional security teams in a timely manner.
  • Analyze common network services and software applications in order to discover new and potential vulnerabilities

Essential Job Functions:


  • Reverse engineer software
  • Develop computer code in multiple languages as applicable
  • Develop instrumentation in support of primary tasks
  • Knowledgeable of evolving trends in offensive and defensive cyber tools, tactics, and procedures
  • Perform as a team member in the research of software vulnerabilities
  • Perform as a team lead on projects when suitable


  • A passion for machine-level software development and engineering
  • Knowledge of operating system fundamentals, including interrupts, threading, virtual memory, device drivers, boot procedures, and memory management techniques
  • Knowledge of operating system internals, development and integration of code within the operating system kernel, kernel debugging, assembly (x86 and 64-bit Intel / AMD, MIPS)
  • Knowledge of file systems, networking, and protocol stacks
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows internals
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux internals
  • In-depth knowledge of compilers, operating systems, and/or program analysis
  • Experience in reverse engineering
  • Experience in vulnerability research
  • Experience in C and C++ programming


  • BS with 10-12 years experience OR 12-14 years experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: computer network penetration testing and techniques; computer evidence seizure, computer forensic analysis, and data recovery, computer intrusion analysis and incident response, intrusion detection, computer network surveillance/monitoring, network protocols, network devices, multiple operating systems, and secure architectures
  • MS with 7-9 years experience desired
