Job Summary: The Research and Development Test Technician will provide support to all research and development test and evaluation activities with focus on maritime events. Canidate will work with US Government staff to position and coordinate all assets necessary to support both internal and external test events slated for Canaveral Air Force Station, its surrounding maritime environment and external test and evaluation ranges available through Government coordination or via direct Government contracts. Canidate will also act as the Government liaison with all external maritime customers to ensure high value R&D test assets are handled in manner so as to ensure sensitive equipment is staged appropriately according to design specifications and deployment requirements to ensure safety of staff, support equipment and Government owned hardware. 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Operate marine equipment such as cranes, A-frames, winches, and davits onboard vessels pier-side or at sea in support of all maritime research and development activities
  • Provide deck hand and swimmer services for deploying and retrieving equipment in the water
  • Worldwide travel / time at sea is required
  • Works with and provides direct support to the US Government so as to gain the necessary knowledge of the various sensors and platforms to ensure end to end test goals can be achieved according to preapproved test plans including all work for pre-deployment, deployment, test activities, recovery and posttest break down
  • Have or obtain detailed working knowledge of all maritime equipment located at CCAFS
  • Works with US Government staff to gain complete understanding of the necessary activities involved in staging, deploying and retrieving various sensors and sensor payloads
  • Support field demonstrations and any ongoing offshore activities

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  

  • Knowledge of marine equipment such as cranes, A-frames, winches, and davits onboard vessels pier-side or at sea in support of all maritime research and development activities.
  • Experienced deck hand
  • Certified PADI diver for deploying and retrieving equipment in the water.  
  • First aid certified
  • Experienced with rigging, line handling
  • Knowledge of vessel maintenance
  • Multi-day time on vessels at sea
  • Experience with staging, deploying, and retrieving devices at sea
  • Previous Government R&D experience desired
  • Experience with test activities at sea desired

Education:

Captain's license and/or Able Bodied Seaman rating desired OR 5 years experience in lieu of license.

Special Requirements: 

  • Physically capable of multiple days at sea on a research vessel. 
  • Travel at 75%
  • Government TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph capability
