Job Summary: 

Contractor will provide on-site maritime system level development, prototype integration, prototype design, operational field and test support to ATI-7 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), Florida. Seeking resourceful and innovative engineer/ naval architect with experience in designing and building maritime payloads and in integration for vehicles, autonomous systems, and underwater applications. The individual must be adaptable, innovative, creative, and ready to lead their organization and project team on mission critical projects. Provides support for in-house technology development initiatives, including feasibility assessments of proposals and ongoing projects by other parties in government, academia, and industry. Prepare statements of work, cost estimates, presentations and reports, and research technical information to support design and prototyping of maritime payloads.  Support project planning, design, development, and execution for research development, investigations, analyses, demonstrations, and testing.  Recommend improvements in design, operation, maintenance and safety for assigned systems and equipment.  Provide supporting technical and logistics documentation relative to recommended design improvements and performance requirements.  Provides designs and recommendations for complex autonomous maritime systems. Provides operational support to field at design systems.Reports on program's status, risk, expenditures, execution, etc.      

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Integrate multiple electronic components and COTs/GOTs systems into autonomous systems and payloads at system level. 
  • Plan, lead, and conduct hardware development, modification, and related functions to adapt vendor-manufactured hardware to meet Government needs and contingencies
  • Analyze problems to determine technical solutions
  • Design and implement payloads or other equipment involving mechanical, electrical, software and structural design and engineering skills for the maritime environment
  • Complies with CCAFS industrial hygiene requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish the ATl7 mission
  • Mentor junior team members and work in a team including customers, junior team members, and end users
  • Monitor/manage mutiple programs towards completion.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:       

  • The ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment
  • Able to design, build, evaluate or test sensor and payload systems to ensure compliance with technical, professional or organizational standards/requirements
  • Applicant must, during the life cycle of a project, be able to communicate clearly with clients in order to explain the progress and results of the work to them.
  • Engineering design experience involving maritime mechanical, electrical, and structural components, payloads, and deployment systems
  • Project planning and requirements development
  • Manage program schedule and performance for multiple projects 
  • Shipboard experience is a plus ( Oil industry, Research, Oceanagraphy, Academia, Military)   
  • Education, experience and training as a qualified Senior Systems Engineer/ Naval Architect, experience in surface ships and autonomous systems preferred
  • Previous experience with Government R&D desired
  • Naval architecture experience desired

Education:

  • BA/BS  (preferably in Ocean Engineers, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering) + 6-10 years of experience OR 8 - 10 years of experience in lieu of degree

Special Requirements:

  • Capable of qualifying for a Government TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • Capable of working in a laboratory environment
  • Capable of sitting for extended periods of time
  • Capable of spending long periods of time aboard a Government vessel at sea
  • Must be fit and capable of occasional strenuous exercise (climbing stairs, ladders and safely navigating on a moving platform)
  • Diving at sea
