Job Summary: This Computer Scientist Vulnerabilities Researcher position provides on-site support to the US Government at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) in Port Canaveral, Florida.  This individual will provide support to the leadership team in development of strategic vision, development of innovative approaches to solving reverse engineering challenges as they relate to national security problems, and vulnerability assessments of ongoing projects by other parties in government, academia, and industry.  Primary duties will include prototyping to discover new and potential vulnerability threats.  This individual will aid in the development and implementation of:

  • Embedded systems (interdisciplinary electro-mechanical systems)
  • Software development in multiple OS environments (Windows, Linux, RTLinux, etc.)
  • Sensor and systems development
  • Reverse engineering of software and hardware systems
  • Data aggregation, analysis, and exploitation

Essential Job Functions:

  • Analyzing the operation and functions of electronic systems (existing and under development) for the purpose of understanding and mitigating potential vulnerabilities as well as reverse engineering the software and firmware
  • Ability to perform software engineering and related functions to modify and adapt vendor-manufactured systems to meet special Government needs and contingencies
  • Support the engineering staff in reverse engineering application-specific integrated circuits, components, and systems
  • Generate requirements, specifications, and verification/validation procedures for software and firmware through the tear-down of the devices
  • Devise and develop algorithms, techniques, and tools for deeply analyzing software binaries for various hardware and software architectures
  • Develop innovative approaches and processes to rapidly and systematically analyze and compare software binaries and filesystem images across product families and platform revisions
  • Share knowledge by clearly articulating ideas through papers and presentations to technical staff, management, and Government decision makers
  • Plan and organize work to ensure timely completion of multiple independent tasks and work effectively in team environments to solve problems
  • Contribute to presentations, briefings, and written reports that keep research sponsors up to date on project progress


  • Must be able to understand C/C++ source code and assembly for at least one hardware architecture and be able to develop software to demonstrate new analysis capabilities
  • Knowledge of multiple hardware architectures and assembly languages, familiarity with software development on Linux/Unix, and experience applying machine learning to software analysis
  • Candidate should be experienced with static and dynamic analysis techniques and should have technical knowledge of computer architectures and operating system internals
  • Must have at least four years of experience in software binary or source code analysis
  • Knowledge of and experience with multiple programing languages including C/C++, Java, assembly, Python, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reverse engineering tools such as IDAPro, Binary Ninja, etc.
  • Knowledge of and experience with real-time operating systems including RTLinux, QNX, etc.
  • Ability to take protocol specification standards and understand how they are implemented in software and firmware
  • The ability to work well with others in a collaborative and dynamic environment
  • Applicant must be able to communicate clearly with clients in order to explain progress and results
  • Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish the client's mission
  • Experience with DoD and community standards for software engineering and design are desired


  • BA/BS + 5 - 8 years of experience OR 9 - 12 years of experience in lieu of degree
  • MS Desired

  • Must be able to obtain TS/SCI
