Job Summary / Responsibilities: 

The Prompt Diagnostic Operations Analyst position will be supporting the Air Force Technical Applications Center's (AFTAC) US Prompt Diagnostic System (USPDS) program with operations support developing and executing daily data processing, sample analysis, background data analysis. USPDS, which falls under the National Technical Nuclear Forensics (NTNF) mission leverages AFTAC to detect, identify, and characterize nuclear events and to report nuclear forensic information to national authorities. The USPDS is a fully integrated, terrestrially based, geographically dispersed, centrally managed prompt detection and reporting system. It provides the ability to collect, process, transmit, and analyze forensic data phenomena resulting from a nuclear event. The candidate will be provided specific mission related tasking and be expected to independently develop the proper approach/solution, brief findings to senior leadership, and conduct independent research.


Essential Job Functions: 

Key duties include:

  • Technical analytical support in the areas of speed of light (SOL) technologies (gamma, EMP, optical, and teller light
  • Review daily data feeds for review to discern, identify, and document man-made phenomena verses naturally occurring phenomena
  • Utilizing the AFTAC engineering change request/recommendation (CR) form, make a recommendation on criteria to automate data evaluations to reduce data reviews and provide technical support with automation of review procedures
  • Work with AFTAC Government operations and subject matter experts (SME's) to understand background noise at sensor sites and their impact on data evaluation and review
  • Utilizing the AFTAC engineering CR form, document any state of health (SOH) issues with sensors, software or communication systems
  • Utilizing AFTAC provided templates, document standard operating procedures, checklists, and concept of operations baselines and changes that occur

Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities 

  • Nuclear weapon
  • CBRNE experience with emphasis on nuclear components
  • Knowledge of analytical methods and statistics
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Works well independently or as part of a group
  • Good writing skills, as there may be a requirement to write reports
  • Degree of judgment and multi-tasking associated with performing job duties
  • Contact with the customer/provide customer support (may be internal or external customer)
  • May conduct some research  
  • Desired- AFTAC Experience and/or NTNF Program Experience 

Education Requirements: 

  • BA/BS
  • Years of exp in lieu of degree 4-9 years' of relevant experience
